When a loving parent (God) is teaching their child (you) to ride a bicycle without training wheels for the first time – the parent (God) knows that the children (you) will inevitably (fail) fall down and hurt themselves. This is just part of growing up (growing closer to God). But the loving parent/God/Jesus is a good and patient teacher.
When the child/us (fails, falls) has a wreck on the bicycle the loving parent/God does not condemn the child for falling off of the bike. God knows that someday the child/you/me/us will be flying fast on that bike! God sees what we can be. God sees our full, true, good, loving potential!
Yes, some day’s we will be coasting downhill with the wind at our backs and on other days it will be all uphill peddling with a headwind blowing against us (some days are harder than others). We may hit potholes in the road, have flat tires, and have wrecks – these are the days when we fail, stumble, and fall. But our loving God does not condemn us!
"For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world,
but to save the world through him.
Our loving God is always there to help to pick ourselves up again, gives us courage to get back on the on the bike again, and God watches over us as we start afresh our new journey. God even gives us road directions and signs so we don’t hurt ourselves.
Just don’t be proud and arrogant (self-righteous and judgmental) riding your bicycle recklessly going, “Look God, No Hands!” (This is when we act like we don’t need God in our lives.) We need to remember that God is our firm foundation; it is God that is holding us up.
Everything I have achieved;
God has given me.
Apart from God I can do nothing.
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
God is watching over us at all times – uphill and downhill. When we fall down, God rushes out to us whenever and wherever we are and wipes away our tears. Then God heals our skinned knees, our brokenness; God heals our wounds and our broken hearts.
God picks us up, encourages us, and gives us all that we need to get back on the road again.
God runs out to us as in the Parable of the (Prodigal) Lost Son: Luke 15:11-31
Footprints in the Sand
Attributed to Mary Stevenson, 1936
One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along
the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints
in the sand one belonging to him
and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life
flashed before him
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times
along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened
at the very lowest
and saddest times of his life.
This really bothered him
and he questioned the LORD about it.
“Lord you said that once I decided to follow you
you’d walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that at the most troublesome times
of my life, there is only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why when I needed you most
you would leave me.”
The LORD replied,
“My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trials and suffering
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.”

Why does God do all of this for us? Because God loves us! God loves YOU unconditionally! God’s love for you is unfailing and God’s love is forever lasting (God’s Eternal Love = God loves your forever in the past (even before you were born), God loves you right NOW in the present, and God loves for your forever into the future!) Love Never Fails!
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails….
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Not even death can separate us from the love of God:
38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
This is the loving God that I know (Assurance). To meet this God, to talk to God, to have a relationship with God… all you have to do is “Pray.”
Please, give a prayer to God right now! Get back on your feet. Get back on the bike. Start peddling. Start flyin’ on your bike.
Start to live your life to the fullest. Start soarin’.
