The Parable of the Lost Sheep

Luke 15:3-7;
Matthew 18:12-14

3Then Jesus told them this parable: 4"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?

5And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.'

7I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
Luke 15:3-7 NIV

God does not leave any “one” behind.

Are YOU a lost sheep? This parable tells of God’s love for YOU and the great rejoicing in heaven over the repentance of just one sinner…YOU! In business losing one out of one-hundred could be considered an acceptable loss, just shrinkage, and a profit loss of just 1%. But to God the loss of just one sheep is an unacceptable number to loose. God wants to find ALL of His lost sheep!

Remember, Jesus is the “Good Shepherd”
who lay down his life for his sheep.

“...and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
John 10:15 NIV

“Greater love has no one than this,
that he lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:13 NIV

This is how we know what love is:
Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.
And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

I John 3:16 NIV

“I am the good shepherd;
I know my sheep
and my sheep know me.”

John 10:14 NIV
