Mission Statements

I don't like "Mission Statements"

I have worked for companies that have always had lofty mission statements. They always went something like this:

1. We love our customers.

2. We love our employees.

3. We will always do our best.

These are quite commendable but what they actually practiced was:

1. We love the money and it ALWAYS comes FIRST.

2. We love the money and it ALWAYS comes FIRST.

3. We love the money and it ALWAYS comes FIRST.

I feel that most of the time these “mission statements” were very superficial; something that looks good on a plaque on the wall but is nowhere implemented into how they really conducted business where, “The Money ALWAYS comes FIRST.”

These companies did not practice what they preached. But I also recognize that it is also very difficult for Christians to practice what we preach since we are all imperfect-Christians.

I do not want to have a superficial plaque on the wall.

Pray that all of your actions will be guided
by your faith in Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:8-9

Pray for the willingness and ability to share your faith with others.
Matthew 28:18-20

Pray that we will follow Christ command to reach the lost
and to serve the needy.

2 Corinthians 5:18

As commendable as these three prayers are I will always struggle to be obedient to these prayers.

I take these prayers seriously. These prayers are much more than nice suggestions. These prayers are in the spirit of the “Great Commission”

The Great Commission

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20

Somehow to me “Mission Statement” is often used as an “insincere broken promise.”

So somehow I do not want to have a “Mission Statement” because I don’t want these prayers to ever become an “insincere broken promise.”

I pray that Christ will always be the center of my life and that Christ will always come FIRST (not the money).
